YGGDRASIL

YGGDRASIL

-----------------------

A PERSONAL INTERPRETATION OF A SWEDISH FOLK ART OBJECT

In spring 2020, atelier Halewijn received an Art Grant from the Blekinge County Culture Department, this to craft a contempary version of a "Blekinge Festträd" - a traditional Scandinavian Folk Art object.

The design - entitled Yggdrasil - combines different crafts techniques, such as pearl-embroidery, woodworking, coppercraft (in collaboration with Coppersmith Michaela Ivarsdotter) and pottery making (in collaboration with Pottery Craftsman Alexander Krohn). This not only to create an interesting mixture of crafts techniques and materials, but also to show the value of collaboration and supporting skilled local artisans.

Inspired by climate change and current world events, the aim was to create an object which represents positive energy, nature inspiration, motivation, collaboration and survival. As the project evolved, it also turned into a conversation with Purpose and the quest for Harmony and Happiness.

Yggdrasil - The Tree of Life

The design features over 650 big gemstones and countless Crystal beads.

All poetry featured in the short film "Yggdrasil" are journal extracts, written by Halewijn.

6 tubes contain seeds for vegetables - which can survive in different climate conditions.

6 tubes contain seeds for pollination flowers - as without insects there won´t be no food.

The 6 horses symbolize intuition, free spirit, will-power, physical-, emotional- & natural strength
