GLOBAL MELTDOWN // HARMONY
EXPLORING THE SYMBOLISM OF BANNERS
In December 2021, atelier Halewijn received an Art Grant from the Blekinge County Culture Department to explore crafting a contemporary "banner" - an object loaded with symbols and slogans to bring awareness for the current state of our world. Upon finishing the project in 2022, there also came a Art funded sequel, which resulted in the collaboration with videographer Niklas Croall.
The banner design - entitled Global Meltdown//Harmony - is inspired by social injustice and war, climate changes and unsustainable living, and the everlasting quest to create and find Harmony. The banner combines different crafts techniques - both old and new - such as digital printing, embroidery, pearl-embroidery, woodworking and coppercraft.
The banner - which was first presented at Kulturarvsforum, autumn 2022 - is now part of the permanet collection at the Blekinge Archive - this as a testimony of our time. The banner was also part of the art dance performance "Becoming Moon" at Brådjupa (Sweden, autumn 2022)
