Unsealed Emotions, Where Stone Split
Unsealed Emotions, Where Stone Split
-----------------------
solo exhibition by HALEWIJN at
Kulturcentrum Ronneby Konsthall (Blekinge, Sweden)
13.06.2026 - 23.08.2026
Halewijn Bulckaen’s solo-exhibition Unsealed Emotions, Where Stone Split explores what lies beneath
the surface — where pressure, fracture, and emotions meet. Like a stone that cracks to reveal its
inner light, the exhibition reflects how the hidden can be revealed in a way that evokes an aesthetic
experience and allows emotions to emerge and shine.
Illustrations and pearl-embroidered couture creations come together in a shared exploration of one’s
inner landscape. Halewijn´s illustrations translate emotions into symbols, totem animals, and spiritual
imagery — intuitive maps of the soul. The couture-pieces draw from small plants and quiet details in
nature, transformed into rich, tactile forms using semi-precious stones, pearls, and mixed materials.
Belgian-Swedish visual creator Halewijn Bulckaen (born 1981) holds a Master’s degree in Visual
Arts and Fashion Design from the Royal Academies of Fine Arts in Ghent and Antwerp (Belgium).
With over 20 years of experience across fashion, design, crafts, and illustration, Halewijn runs atelier
HALEWIJN in Karlskrona, Sweden — a studio where personal work and selected collaborations meet.
Rooted in nature, craftsmanship, and sustainability, the practice is guided by empathy, aesthetic
clarity, and a dedication to meaningful creation.

YGGDRASIL

YGGDRASIL
-----------------------
A PERSONAL INTERPRETATION OF A SWEDISH FOLK ART OBJECT
In spring 2020, atelier Halewijn received an Art Grant from the Blekinge County Culture Department, this to craft a contempary version of a "Blekinge Festträd" - a traditional Scandinavian Folk Art object.
The design - entitled Yggdrasil - combines different crafts techniques, such as pearl-embroidery, woodworking, coppercraft (in collaboration with Coppersmith Michaela Ivarsdotter) and pottery making (in collaboration with Pottery Craftsman Alexander Krohn). This not only to create an interesting mixture of crafts techniques and materials, but also to show the value of collaboration and supporting skilled local artisans.
Inspired by climate change and current world events, the aim was to create an object which represents positive energy, nature inspiration, motivation, collaboration and survival. As the project evolved, it also turned into a conversation with Purpose and the quest for Harmony and Happiness.
Yggdrasil - The Tree of Life
The design features over 650 big gemstones and countless Crystal beads.
All poetry featured in the short film "Yggdrasil" are journal extracts, written by Halewijn.
6 tubes contain seeds for vegetables - which can survive in different climate conditions.
6 tubes contain seeds for pollination flowers - as without insects there won´t be no food.
The 6 horses symbolize intuition, free spirit, will-power, physical-, emotional- & natural strength

EXPLORING THE SYMBOLISM OF BANNERS
In December 2021, atelier Halewijn received an Art Grant from the Blekinge County Culture Department to explore crafting a contemporary "banner" - an object loaded with symbols and slogans to bring awareness for the current state of our world. Upon finishing the project in 2022, there also came a Art funded sequel, which resulted in the collaboration with videographer Niklas Croall.
The banner design - entitled Global Meltdown//Harmony - is inspired by social injustice and war, climate changes and unsustainable living, and the everlasting quest to create and find Harmony. The banner combines different crafts techniques - both old and new - such as digital printing, embroidery, pearl-embroidery, woodworking and coppercraft.
The banner - which was first presented at Kulturarvsforum, autumn 2022 - is now part of the permanet collection at the Blekinge Archive - this as a testimony of our time. The banner was also part of the art dance performance "Becoming Moon" at Brådjupa (Sweden, autumn 2022)
